  • Tucson, AZ, USA
  • Full Time

The Trump administration is a crisis for life on Earth, so the Center for Biological Diversity is doing something new: Launching an organizing department, including a national program called Ignite Change that enables volunteers to lead their own grassroots organizing campaigns ' made up of not just digital petitions, but the full range of organizing tactics that it really takes to win.

At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature and to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

The Center is currently looking for a full-time Digital Manager in our Organizing Department. This position may work remotely.

Essential qualities, qualifications, and skills desired:

  • Substantial experience in digital organizing, communications, and data management.
  • A proven ability to produce clear, concise, persuasive writing on tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency/experience with CRMs like EveryAction and ActionKit.
  • Proficiency/experience with the following digital tools:
    • Relay, Slack, Maestro, Help Scout
  • Experience with campaign planning and strategy preferred.
  • Experience working with a distributed organizing model preferred.

 Primary job duties:

  • Write compelling email copy to engage and recruit our volunteers and supporters in strategic campaigns that support wildlife-conservation initiatives.
  • Mobilize and recruit volunteers through compelling email campaigns and actions.
  • Design and execute a social media strategy for Ignite Change, the Center's activist network.
  • Create content for and maintain Ignite Change webpages and online forms.
  • Manage the Ignite Change CRM database (currently in ActionKit, possibly moving to EveryAction in 2018).
  • Support our distributed-organizing and field campaigns with digital tools for communication, peer-to-peer texting, webinars and other platforms.
  • Train volunteers, maintain engagement of volunteers, and provide support and guidance for volunteers.
  • Support call and text volunteer teams, and help provide technical support and guidance to staff that manage these teams.

Expectations:

  • Be a good teammate and colleague. We value teamwork and expect each member of the team to have a "can do" attitude and a willingness to help when/where needed.
  • Be open to and expect weekend and nighttime hours.
  • Be comfortable with a remote workplace. You will interact with your coworkers and with volunteers primarily via Slack, video chat and phone calls.
  • Be committed to protecting the environment and social justice.
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced workplace where plans can change day to day.
  • Be an excellent and persuasive writer.
  • Be committed to winning. To us that means being accountable for outcomes, being willing to test your ideas against reality and adapt if your approach isn't working, and being willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish our goals.
  • Be hands-on in your approach. We expect everyone on our team to regularly do every task we ask volunteers to do. Ours is not a team for "ideas people" or anyone who is unwilling to personally dive in to do necessary repetitive work or manually solve messy, complex, difficult problems.
  • Love and respect volunteers. Volunteers are at the center of everything we do. We believe meaningful change happens when millions of regular people set out to change the world. Our job is to support volunteer leadership.

Benefits package:

  • Paid generous medical, dental and vision plan.
  • Paid short- and long-term disability.
  • A 403(b) retirement plan with opportunity for match.
  • Generous time-off policies.
  • A relaxed work atmosphere and dress code.

Application process: Please apply via our website by submitting a cover letter, a resume, a writing sample and three references with your application.
