The Center is currently looking for a full-time Online Membership AssociateThe preferred location for this position is Tucson, Ariz., but other locations will be considered.


General position overview:

The Online Membership Associate position is a fast-paced, exciting opportunity to join a successful team supporting the fundraising activities of the Center for Biological Diversity's development/membership program. The Online Membership Associate will utilize online communications to increase constituent engagement, help acquire donors and supporters, and raise significant funds in the digital space. The Online Membership Associate will also leverage targeted advertising and marketing on Facebook, petition sites, and a variety of other platforms to help grow and engage the Center's base of 1.4 million supporters and members. The ideal candidate will have a background in conservation issues, online fundraising and activism; a strong interest in and aptitude for performance-metrics analysis; a good eye for layout and graphics; and a talent for producing sharp, well-crafted communications for online channels such as email, websites and social media.

Main duties:

  • Produce mobile-friendly emails, including graphics selection, layout, setting up complex audience targeting, testing, and owning final email delivery on a weekly and as-needed basis.
  • Develop engaging and timely conservation-themed petitions for e-acquisition.
  • Deliver accurate, compelling and urgent calls to action to members and supporters in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with program and communications staff.
  • Produce mobile-friendly, customized donation forms and email auto-responders for appeals and other online initiatives.
  • Produce content on variety of acquisition (third-party) and paid-advertising sources, including Facebook and other social media channels.
  • Implement welcome campaigns designed to engage new supporters with a focus on converting new members to donors.
  • Coordinate the membership side of the Center's calendar with our communications and organizing teams.
  • Implement email A/B and multivariate testing for both emails and web forms.
  • Build complex queries in the organization's eCRM platform to analyze performance and achieve the strategic goals of the program.
  • Maintain eCRM list hygiene (the importing of lists and segmentation, and the creation of target and suppression groups) for constituents, supporters and advocates.
  • Monitor campaign performance across acquisition channels on a weekly, daily or otherwise frequent basis.
  • Perform data tracking, reporting and analysis to optimize fundraising objectives, including donor upgrading, retention, reactivation, and conversion into monthly or sustaining supporters.
  • Develop regular reports on email, membership, fundraising and social media ad-campaign performance for analytical purposes.
  • Stay abreast of digital, social media and acquisition space to drive future acquisition initiatives.

Essential qualities, qualifications and skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working within nonprofit eCRM fundraising software platforms such as EveryAction, Salsa, Blackbaud Luminate and Engaging Networks.
  • HTML experience and fluency with email design and delivery best practices.
  • Experience producing content and generating reports across social media channels (including Facebook, Instagram and other emerging platforms).
  • Strong copywriting abilities, with additional expertise writing petitions for online acquisition platforms such as Care2 and strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity and understanding of sophisticated digital segmentation strategies for donor retention, recruitment and upgrade.
  • Light graphic and digital video production experience.
  • Experience in online grassroots organizing, environmental advocacy and nonprofit communications.
  • Experience implementing Peer2Peer fundraising campaigns a plus.
  • Google Analytics and other data analytic experience highly desired.
  • The ability to apply exceptional attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and a high level of accuracy when completing complex tasks.  
  • The ability to learn and complete tasks quickly.
  • The ability to organize time, manage diverse activities and personal interactions, and prioritize tasks to meet both short- and longer-term deadlines.
  • A high energy level and excellent interpersonal skills, as well as a proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong project-management skills.
  • A passion for and knowledge of the natural world, biodiversity and the Endangered Species Act.
  • A good sense of humor and positive demeanor.
  • A college degree.
