At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature and to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters and climate that species need to survive.

We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

The Center is currently looking for a part-time Endangered Species Condoms Coordinator to oversee and maintain our award-winning Endangered Species Condoms project. This position is located in Tucson, Arizona.

General position overview:

The Center for Biological Diversity is the only environmental group directly addressing human population growth and its negative impact on the environment and wildlife. Our groundbreaking Population and Sustainability program uses creative media and outreach, including our Endangered Species Condoms, to drive the effort to curb human population growth, expand reproductive rights and protect wildlife on a crowded planet. The Center has given away more than 650,000 Endangered Species Condoms since 2009 to highlight the connection between runaway human population growth and the wildlife extinction crisis.

The Endangered Species Condoms Coordinator will work closely with the Population Organizer to plan and implement Endangered Species Condoms distribution campaigns and special projects and manage volunteers, and will be responsible for overseeing logistics and monitoring requests and distribution opportunities for the condoms. In addition, they will maintain relationships with Center supporters, educators and vendors, and assist with other population-related projects as needed.

Primary duties:

  • Maintain relationships with vendors and reorder supplies as needed.
  • Obtain competitive price quotes for condoms, packaging and distribution-related materials as needed.
  • Ensure that all Center offices and staff are stocked with an appropriate quantity of Endangered Species Condoms.
  • Monitor and respond to weekly Endangered Species Condom volunteer applicants and mail Condoms to chosen applicants.
  • Develop materials and facilitate volunteer trainings to effectively communicate regarding why human population growth is an environmental problem.
  • Manage and expand the Pillow Talk museum project.
  • Maintain a database of current volunteers and partners.
  • Support campaign planning and logistics.

Essential qualities, qualifications and skills:

  • Experience in organizing logistics for large campaigns and material distributions.
  • A highly organized and detail-oriented character; must have experience with Google Docs and maintaining databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A high comfort level talking to people in person and by phone.
  • Experience working with a team and independently.
  • A passion for and knowledge of protecting the natural world and protecting biodiversity.
  • An interest in educating the general public about the negative impacts of human population growth on the environment and wildlife.
  • A sense of humor- this is a puntastic condom project, after all.

Application process:

Please apply by submitting a thoughtful cover letter, a resume and three to five references. The position will remain open until filled. No telephone calls, please. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
